Today, the public and legal systems expect more from healthcare professionals than ever before and without the right professional liability insurance, sonographers are unable to protect themselves against medical malpractice claims. A malpractice claim can be financially devastating for a sonographer and ruin their reputation without the correct defence.
As a sonographer, you offer your medical services to your clients, but also put yourself at risk of alleged errors and omissions. Sonography malpractice insurance protects you against the full cost of legal expenses and will protect you from losing personal assets, such as your house, in a legal medical malpractice battle.
A comprehensive insurance package can cover your equipment and other business assets, financial risks and your liability to others. For example, s medical malpractice insurance, also referred to as Errors & Omissions, can cover defence costs and awards made against you should a patient allege that they were harmed by your treatment. This ensures that should you need legal advice for a claim made against you, you will not be responsible financially for defending yourself legally. Additional coverage, such as directors’ and officers’ liability insurance, can be added to a sonographer insurance programme.
You need sonographer insurance as without the right protection, a sonographer could be financially ruined by a malpractice claim. Even if you are not truly at fault, a frivolous claim can be financially draining without the right legal defence coverage. The majority of sonographers who are faced with malpractice claims never thought it would happen to them, making insurance important for any sonographer, no matter how experienced they are.
It is also important to note that an employer’s insurance may not be enough coverage for a sonographer. Having your own policy ensures you will be protected against all claims against you, regardless of whether or not you change employer. Choosing your own coverage allows you to choose your own policy terms, protecting yourself to suit your own needs.
