AXA Insurance, one of Europe’s biggest insurers has announced the four most frequent reasons for them turning down claims. They are all the sorts of things I’ve been telling people about…..and they’re really easy to avoid:
1. Unbelievably, people are still leaving their keys in the car when they get out e.g. when paying for fuel. Don’t leave car keys in or on the car when leaving it unattended .
2. Don’t forget to lock all home doors and windows when you go out or go to bed at night. Many policies have strict requirements about types of locks and when to use them. The same may apply if you have an alarm system.
3. Keep your property in good condition. This includes repairing flat roofs, repairing broken tiles and clearing out blocked gutters and downpipes. Not doing so can increase the risk of storm and flood damage.
4. For business clients, remember to tell your insurer if the police response to your alarm system changes e.g. following false alarms.
