#3 – Don’t leave keys in your car.
Pretty much all insurance policies now exclude theft of your vehicle if the keys are left in or on it.
So, when you fill up with fuel, lock the car and take the keys when you go to pay. When de-icing the car (hopefully not for many months yet), don’t be tempted to leave the engine running while you go back in the house for a cup of tea.
Now, there have been cases where a test of reasonableness has been applied, so perhaps leaving the keys in the car while you’ve walked into your garage to get some tools, might not mean a claim is refused…..BUT……it’s best not to risk it!
