Monty Python fans will remember this, others may not. Either way, I have some tips for you that will help you if you ever need to make a claim:

  • Take photos of each area of your business premises, from different angles so that all your equipment is identified.   Believe it or not, people that suffer a break in or fire often find it difficult to remember what equipment they had.    A few photos will help to remind you.  Plus it also acts as evidence to give the insurer to prove what you had!
  • Take individual photos of more expensive equipment.
  • When you buy new IT equipment, take a photo of the box label showing the make, model and serial number. Again this acts as evidence but also means you won’t have to crawl behind it looking for a serial number should it develop a fault.
  • Do the same at home. Trying to remember details of all your pictures, ornaments and other contents that were damaged in a fire or stolen in a burglary can be difficult – photos will help.
  • Store copies of the photos away from your property e.g. in the “cloud” or at a different address – you don’t want the evidence to be lost!

Hopefully you will never need them, but you’ll be glad if you do.
