Several Parties Sentenced After Worker Fell From Height

A company, two directors and a contractor received various sentences after an electrician fell from height through an unprotected stairwell.

The employee was performing electrical work on a property owned by the contractor when he fell from a damaged board and landed on the concrete floor, suffering several fractures, a bleed on the brain and nerve damage.
Further investigation revealed that the two directors of the company and the contractor were aware that the damaged board was in use and had failed to carry out proper risk assessments or implement suitable safety measures on-site. Each party received the following sentencing:

• The company was fined £20,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,548.28.
• One director and the contractor were sentenced to 16 weeks in prison (suspended for 18 months), fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,000.
• The other director was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay costs of £2,000.
