The Society of Radiographers (SOR) has announced that from 1st October 2017, members will only have the benefit of the SOR insurance scheme if they have a contract of employment for their activities. In other words a member must be employed by the NHS or another medical service provider.
With the number of sonographers that have become self-employed or even formed a limited company, this can be a massive headache. Separate medical malpractice insurance will now have to be purchased, but not many insurance brokers have experience in the sector and even fewer insurance companies will provide cover, especially for obstetric scans.
We have been working with a number of members, with a view to arranging a suitable policy specially designed for sonographers and we hope to be announcing news on this very soon.
