Travel Insurance

A client of ours almost came “unstuck” recently by not reading his documentation.

Most travel insurance policies contain a medical declaration which requires the policyholder to declare certain medical conditions suffered not only by those travelling but also close relatives.

Our client was on holiday with his wife when her mother sadly passed away and of course they returned home immediately.  She had been undergoing cancer treatment but our client had not told his insurer about this (as required by the policy) so had the prospect of losing the money they had spent on the unused part of the holiday.

Fortunately, we were able to persuade the insurer to pay up BUT they might not have been so flexible!

The moral of the story is that whenever taking out travel insurance or when booking a holiday, check to see what your insurer expects you to tell them about medical histories.
