#10 – Build up an asset register for your business contents and machinery

In the same way as Tip #9, having a list of all your business equipment and contents has a number of benefits:

  1. It helps you to recall what might have been damaged or stolen
  2. It’s a great way to make sure your sums insured are correct
  3. It makes the insurer’s life much easier when dealing with your claim.  And believe it or not, they do like an easy life!
  4. Your accountant might find it a help.

So start today.  Create a spread sheet recording description, serial number, purchase price, date of purchase and date of disposal.  Get into the habit of updating it.
