#9 – Keep receipts and invoices
If something is stolen or damaged in a fire, it can be difficult to remember its full description. Was it 9ct or 18ct gold? Was it a 12″ or 14″ necklace? Did the laptop have 3Gb or 5Gb RAM?
So keep receipts and invoices, ideally in hard copy and scanned and stored remotely e.g. at another location or in the “cloud”.
This sort of evidence is also proof of the item’s existence so the insurer cannot quibble over what you are claiming for.
