Are your employees banned from driving?

No?   How do you know?  Have you checked their driving licence?

I sometimes watch those police programmes and it amazes me how so many people have the nerve to drive a car when they’ve been banned.

What are the issues?

• If you have staff that use your vehicles, then you could be uninsured if they don’t have a valid licence.

• It’s not just bans though. Most insurers will want to know about any driving convictions that your drivers have.

• The new photo driving licences expire after 10 years.  Many people forget to renew them.  Have you checked yours?

• Don’t forget some newer licences are now more restrictive about the types of vehicle that can be driven.

What’s the solution?

• Put in place a system to do an annual check on the driving licences of any staff that may drive as part of your business.

• Keep a copy of the licence on file – especially the paper counterpart.
