With autumn upon us and winter approaching, now is a good time to start taking some precautions to help prevent damage and keep you on the right side of your insurance policy conditions.
Your Home
- Keep gutters and gulleys clear of leaves and other debris to help prevent water damage and flooding.
- Check the condition of roofs. Look out for slipped or broken slates and tiles. Flat roofs deteriorate over time and should be checked by a competent person each year.
- Does any exposed woodwork need painting?
- Make sure your boiler is serviced. Nobody wants a cold house and no hot water on a winter’s day!
- Are all your security lights working?
- Check fencing andĀ fenceposts for damage – a rotten post can result in a whole fence coming down inĀ a strong wind.
Your Car
- Check tread on tyres to make sure they are legal and can cope with water on the roads.
- Top up antifreeze and washer fluid with appropriate strength fluids.
- Check windscreen for chips and have them repaired. Most insurance policies will cover the cost of this without an excess to pay.
