Doctors surgeries

The healthcare sector continues to undergo immense changes whether that be from Government led initiatives or other external factors.

Whilst it is possible to purchase insurance for a surgery over the internet, can you be confident that the provider can truly advise you about the adequacy of your cover, security or sums insured?  This is why it is important to deal with a local insurance broker.

We can help

Andrew Phillips Insurance has a real understanding of the issues your surgery may face.  We aim to visit each client to make sure that we understand their requirements in detail.  For your peace of mind, you will be dealing with a company that has experience of dealing with healthcare professionals.

Below is a list (by no means exhaustive) of just some of the covers you may need to protect your practice:

Insurance for Equipment

The cost of diagnostic equipment continues to rise, not helped by the VAT increase.  Refitting a consulting room following say, a burst pipe, can be expensive.  It is vital to have adequate insurance that will help you to replace any damaged contents as quickly as possible.

Medical Malpractice Insurance

If you have set up a limited company to provide services under a NHS contract, you may be required to have very specific insurance arrangements in place. This can include medical malpractice insurance in the company name – a doctor’s personal medical defense cover WILL NOT protect the company if a patient or a member of his or her family were to pursue it for compensation for harm allegedly caused. Even spurious or malicious allegations need to be defended.

Public Liability Insurance

Public liability insurance protects the practice against claims brought by patients or visitors who declare that they were hurt or suffered a loss of property on your premises. For instance, if a patient slips and falls on ice on your front step, he may file a claim if he suffers a fractured wrist.

Business Interruption Insurance

A major incident such as a fire or flood can not only damage your premises and equipment but it also can have a long term impact on your income. With or without the increasing trend of fund-holding, a practice might see its income cut if it were not able to provide continuation of service. Patients might be moved to another practice leading to a loss of income or you might incur significant costs in finding and setting up a temporary alternative surgery. Correctly arranged business interruption insurance can help to prevent a loss of income.
