The people working in your business are your most important asset. Investing in recruitment, development and training is expensive so you should consider insurance to protect your business should they be unable to work.
What might I need?
Private Medical Insurance (PMI).
Often seen as an expensive luxury (especially in the current climate), PMI is something you should consider.
- What if a member of staff with particularly vital skills needs medical treatment but the NHS cannot treat him or her for several weeks or months? He or she may be able to attend work but may not be able to work effectively or consistently due to the condition.
- What if the NHS can only treat him or her at your busiest time of year or at your financial year end?
PMI would enable treatment to be carried out at a time to suit them and your business, meaning that they could get back to work more quickly.
Personal Accident Insurance (PA).
This can be arranged to pay a lump sum in the event of accidental death, loss of a limb or permanent disablement. It can even be extended to pay towards loss of earnings if a member of staff cannot work following an accident e.g. due to a broken leg.
Business Travel Insurance
Sending staff abroad creates additional risks and responsibilities for an employer. Amongst other things, a business travel policy can provide for emergency medical expenses, cancellation costs, replacement employee expenses and loss of baggage.
